What's
New at Sea Quest |
|
- We have new T-shirts available for sale - a great gift or
souvenir for your kayak trip! They come in 5 colors to choose from:
navy blue, dark green, cabernet/burgundy, tan/sand, and black. All
are emblazoned with our black & white orca logo on front in a
pocket-sized graphic, and with a larger black & white graphic on the
backside of a kayaker's silhouette adrift among the islands with a
mountain background. Sizes range from medium, large, extra-large,
and double extra-large. Sorry, no small or extra small! They cost $20 each and half the amount will
be donated to the San Juan Preservation Trust, a conservation group
that does a great job of preserving habitat in the islands. If you'd
like to order,
send us a check that includes the purchase price, plus $5 for
shipping. A second shirt can be shipped in the same envelope for no
additional cost. For larger orders, email us to obtain the correct
shipping cost. You may also pay for your purchase with a credit
card.
- USA Today features Sea Quest in
their
article "Ten amazing adventures under
$1,000 for 2007" and described our sea kayaking tours with the
killer whales in the San Juan Islands of Washington as one of the
top ten adventure bargains throughout the world!
- Men's Journal published a special Adventures Issue to showcase
the top 100 adventures in North America. Sea Quest Expeditions made
the list for our San Juan Islands sea kayaking with orca whales
tours! You
can read about us on page 60 of the May 2005 issue.
- Horizons Magazine published a lengthy and very informative
article on sea kayaking with Dall's porpoise in the San Juan
Islands. Sea Quest Expeditions was chosen as their featured kayak
tour company due to our in-depth knowledge of the marine mammals
in this region. It is gratifying to see some media interest
appearing for the smaller and less spectacular species, particularly
as orca whales usually garner all the press in the Pacific
Northwest. Porpoises are an important component of our ecosystem and
a joy to watch and share the waters with.
- We are now
offering 3 and 5 day Women-only Trips, 3 day Sea Kayak Skills
Training class, and a 3 day Marine Mammals Ecology paddle. Please view the schedule for
the 2008 dates and check here for program
details.
- If you are thinking about employment as a kayak guide send us
your resume for the 2008 San Juan Islands season. Please
check the "Our Guides" page for details and contact us
soon if you are interested!
- Baja sea kayaking trips are in the
midst of their 18th consecutive season. The winter weather has been
great along the southern Baja Peninsula and the spring bloom in the
desert should be spectacular this year due to unusually high amounts
of rainfall from last fall's hurricanes.
- Both our executive director, Martine Springer, and
Sea Quest were featured in a recent television special concerning the San
Juan Islands' community of killer whales called
"Cry of the Orcas". The documentary, originally aired
on KOMO-TV in the Greater Seattle / Puget Sound region and now in
syndication for telecast throughout the country, focuses on the
conservation problems facing the continued survival of our local
whales. Look for it to air again in your area in 2005.
- Sea Quest Kayak Expeditions appeared in the March 2003 issue of
Travel and Leisure Magazine. The article features ten fantastic
vacations for those with a budget under $1,500.
- Our San Juan Island vacations and our company are showcased in a new book
entitled "Inside-Out Washington: the Best Places Guide to the
Outdoors" by Ron Judd of Sasquatch Books.
- Our Executive Director,
Martine Springer, was recently highlighted in an issue of American
Careers for 2002-03. This magazine is designed to help young
people plan their careers in today's world.. The article is called
"Out to Sea" and describes what it is like to be a sea
kayak guide. Check out page 30 if you have a copy.
- Sea Quest's outdoor programs were favorably discussed in the August 2002 issue of Sunset
Magazine. The article is called "Escape to the San Juan
Islands" and begins on page 82.
- If you're willing to visit your library's periodical archives,
look for the September/October 1998
issue of Northwest Palate Magazine to read about our kayak tours in
the San Juan Islands of Washington. This article has stimulated a hunger amongst gourmets and
epicureans for our kayak expeditions and a great deal of trepidation among our guides when
they put on their chef hats each evening.
- Going back even further into the archives, Sea Quest's Baja
kayaking trips were
featured in the November 1997 issue of Fitness
Magazine. This article has generated a great deal of interest in sea
kayaking as a way of maintaining physical fitness.
- Sea Quest kayaking trips in the San Juan Islands were listed as the #1 family vacation in North
America by Family Travel Magazine in their March 1997 issue! Our
kayak tours were ranked the best out
of their overall top 25 picks.
