Preparing for Your Sea Kayaking Adventure

"I am making a special effort to thank you for your flexibility and the extra time you took to make arrangements for me. All the extra effort paid off in a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. Kevin is a wonderful kayak guide. All aspects of the kayak trip were top-notch. I plan to return to sea kayak with you again. Thanks for a premier sea kayaking and whale-watching experience."
J Pizzino MD, Cary, NC

Planning and Packing for a Kayak Expedition:

Pre-Trip Information: Every participant is provided with a very thorough package of information intended to make your kayak trip planning a breeze. It covers every part of your preparation: what to bring, planning travel to and from the area, accommodation advice, etc. It also included a comprehensive reading list so you can research the area and its natural features in as much detail as you desire.

What You Bring: Depending on the kayak trip you join, you will only need to bring clothes, sleeping bag and pad, and a few personal effects. Some kayak trips require you to bring your lunch and eating utensils. All camping and kayaking equipment, except sleeping bags, is provided by Sea Quest Kayak Expeditions. Your pre-trip information includes a detailed list of every item to bring.

Travel & Hotels: We can provide useful advice for all your travel plans. We are always here to help, and to answer any questions. Our website provides excellent information for planning your travel. Please refer to the web page for your specific trip location and scroll down the page to locate the information.

E-mail or call us if you have any questions. And don't forget to refer to the web pages that pertain to your trip destination. We've anticipated just about every question imaginable and provided the answers on those pages where it is available at any hour, even when our office is closed!

Be Prepared to Spend a Few Nights in the Wildlands:

Although comfort is emphasized throughout your kayak adventure, kayaking trips that are longer than one day involve camping outdoors. Be prepared to exercise, sleep in a tent, and use wilderness facilities. We will take you to the best possible places at the best possible times, but nevertheless, we cannot guarantee good weather, whales, or wildlife sightings.

Physical Requirements: You can participate in a kayak trip! If you are able to hike, bike, or swim, you can paddle our sea kayaks. No previous experience is necessary! Nor do you need any swimming skills. Anyone in average physical condition may join a kayak trip. The only prerequisite is a healthy spirit of curiosity and adventure. Regardless of your age or skill level you will find that our kayaking tours offer enough flexibility to make your experience with us safe and rewarding.Kayak trip kayaking tour kayak vacation

While our kayaking trips are not designed to be strenuous, good general physical condition is required. You don't need to be an athlete, but you must be capable of moderate exercise for a few hours each day. Only you can honestly self-assess your level of fitness and determine whether a particular kayak trip is appropriate. If you are overweight, in poor health, or have special medical needs, you should call us to discuss which of our kayak tours is most suitable for you. In these circumstances, you should consult with your physician before the kayak trip.

Personal Safety: Our safety record is perfect thanks to the numerous precautions we take to insure your physical well-being. Although we believe we are thorough and reasonable in our safety measures, it is possible that an injury could occur when involved in a physical outdoor activity. When you choose to join one of our kayak adventures, you must also assume responsibility for the possibility of personal injury. You are also expected to follow all safety advice from your kayak guides, and do your best to contribute to your own, and the entire group's, safety.
