SEA KAYAK TOUR GUIDE AND OUTDOOR EDUCATOR – MATT SZYMANOWICZ
“What an amazing kayak trip you sent us on! A true blessing. Matt was a great kayak tour guide, and put us exactly were we needed to be to see the whales. It’s as if he fell from a kayak at birth, was raised by orca whales, then finally rescued by Emeril Lagasse. Thanks again for everything.” Jamey and Leslie Guy
Matt is in his 6th year leading San Juan Islands kayak tours and has quickly moved up the ranks as one of our most requested guides by repeat guests. He is a fun and personable outdoor educator with a knack for bringing a diverse group of people together as a close knit team. His flair of campsite cooking certainly helps his popularity, too!
Matt spent the past winter in Belize leading kayak tours for one of our trusted colleagues and associates. There he was able to live the idyllic tropical island lifestyle on an atoll in the barrier reef, while improving his skills in kayak surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding, and free diving. On the mainland, he focused on river kayaking, caving, and looking for his lost pet tarantula that answers to the name “Fuzzy”.
Previously, Matt has worked as a guide and educator in New Zealand, on NSF rainforest projects in Puerto Rico, and as a teacher in the United States. He holds a degree in Environmental Science with a focus on Ecosystem Studies but is now working on his Master’s degree in Marine Policy.
If you have a nice photo of Matt, aka “Sparky”, kayaking in the San Juan Islands, please send it to us for inclusion here. All we have is this picture of him sinking into the mudflats on what is known as the infamous “geoduck expedition” – oops!
